LONDON, UK, Thursday 30 June 2022
Mishcon de Reya have signed a commercial agreement with LegalTech start-up Della, following its recent participation in the MDR Lab programme. As a result of the agreement, Della’s AI driven contract analytics platform, which makes the process of reviewing legal documents faster, accurate and efficient, will be available to selected teams across the firm.
Della graduated from MDR Lab’s Improve programme in February 2022. During its participation in the programme, Della worked with a variety of contentious and non-contentious departments to test and iterate on its existing solution and explore new use-cases and other ways to use the product, which included the development of a “summarisation” feature, which not only helps the firm’s team to review a range of legal documents; but also to produce client-ready documentation, reports, and letters.
Dan Sinclair, Head of MDR Lab, said: “We are thrilled to continue our journey with Della, having spent time together in the Lab working with the team to further develop their product and refine their value proposition. There is a lot of talk about slow sales cycles in the legal sector, but this deal was done within weeks of Della completing the programme, highlighting the benefits of building product in close proximity to end-users and demonstrating problem-solution fit.”
Dulcie Pearson, Solutions Engineer in Mishcon de Reya’s Practice Transformation Team, which worked closely with Della during its time with MDR Lab, commented: “We have been looking for an intuitive tool to enable our teams to review their contracts faster, and Della does exactly that. It lets us ask questions about our contracts in plain English and get answers quickly. This functionality matches the way our teams work on a daily basis, I am hopeful that Della can be rolled out across a number of practice areas in future.”
Christophe Frèrebeau, founder and CEO of Della, commented: “We are extremely proud to be strengthening our partnership with Mishcon de Reya. Working with MDR Lab allowed us to test our AI in several additional scenarios, with different teams, and unlock further benefits for our users. We do not see ourselves as a replacement for any of the firm’s existing contract analysis tools; instead, we want to modernise how highly efficient teams keep track of the risks and obligations that exist across their contractual landscape.”
Della continues to work with law firms and legal departments of all sizes across the world to revolutionise their legal document review processes. Providing lawyers with Google-like functionality that enables them to gain actionable insight into their contracts, without much of the manual effort and training that is required to set up and use many existing contract analysis and review tools. Della also learns every time it’s used, allowing users to review their contracts faster. In fact, it only takes 10 mins for a new user to start using Della. Powered by massive language models, Della reduces time-to-value, ensuring firms of all sizes can use sophisticated AI and NLP to transform their contract analysis and review processes.
About MDR Lab
MDR Lab was founded in 2017 to enable Mishcon de Reya to work uniquely and exclusively with technology start-ups in the legal space. Since then, the Lab has worked with 30 companies and Mishcon de Reya now uses 8 of the products across the Firm and has made equity investments in 4 of the businesses. The Improve programme is a 12-week programme that gives startups in the legal space the opportunity to work within their target market, to pilot and improve products, and gain a better understanding of where lawyers and their clients would benefit from new technologies.
Della provides law firms and in-house legal teams with artificial intelligence to accelerate review and audit of legal documents. Della has developed a unique question answering technology which enables legal professionals to analyse documents based on their own questions and checklists, allowing them to make the best use of their own expertise. This novel technology allows firms of all sizes to use and adopt AI without the significant time investment which was required for early AI players. Founded in 2018, Della’s platform is already used by law firms and in-house legal departments across the world. Della has offices in London and Paris.
